On the Bike
There wil be a bit of wind, sun, and even storm.....so, some days might be hard, but at the same time very rewarding. We’ll ensure a good balance between work and play. And you will grow stronger as we continue. The average daily distance is touching 100kms.
We all ride at a different pace, hence there will be different groups that you may join, depending on how you feel – say fast / medium / relaxed. We’ll suss out each other on the road. Remember, no prizes for being first.
They slow down, or stop, when a reason appears. They ask you to ride to the left. They ride on the front and on the back of your group. We have two ride captains per group.
Our support vehicles en route are there to carry your luggage between accommodation venues and to serve as mobile water points as below. They can also give you a lift. They are also medically trained.
Don’t just look at the wheel in front of you – take in the sights and sounds around you. Winelands. Mountains. Plantations. Vineyards. Sunrise. Sunsets. From dawn till dusk, you will be enchanted by the magic of the Boland & Beyond.
Safety first. We provide ride captains, routes and support vehicles, but you are ultimately responsible for your own safety. Always let sanity prevail. We follow the rules of the road.
...will be at shops or farm stalls for our participants to use their amenities and facilities, or that you can acquire a coffee or croissant, should the need arise. We provide energy, lots of energy.
*Digitally, off course. All routes will be ready for download to gps devices prior to the ride. Check out the route maps for each stage. Remember the golden rule: unless you are instructed to turn, just keep on riding. We keep it simple.
The medical team will be mobile throughout the route. They may also function as a sweep vehicle from time to time. Kindly obey the instructions and rulings of our medical personnel at all times.
This is not a race. There are no medals. Everyone is a winner. Feel free to share your efforts on Strava. We may award some spot prizes for individual efforts and humour on the bike. Banter is encouraged.
Off the Bike
Ride-only or full-support
Choose your tour. If you wish to arrange your own accommodation, select the self-catering ride-only option when we ask you to choose. OR, like most of our riders, select a fully catered package (single or sharing) and let us worry about what to eat & where to sleep & how your luggage gets transported – your job is simple: just Ride & Relax.
There will be no camping. We make exclusive use of B&B’s, resorts and guest houses. We seriously soak up the regional hospitality! You can choose whether you want to share with a partner or not – sharing rates are generally around 20% cheaper than single rates. We'll quote you before we invoice you 🙂
Can be arranged as an optional extra. Uber. Shuttle. Bike box. Just ask. Oh, and some of our international guests book longer stays with us and include a couple of days pre and post Tour, including the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
We do luggage transfers behind the scenes, the support vehicles will transfer your bags to the accommodation at the end of the stage, while you cycle. They also carry your last-minute stuff, like arm warmers and jackets.
Breakfast and dinner is included in the 'all-in' option. Lunch will be for your own account, or snacked on the road. Join us for our pre-arranged group dinners with local cuisine, including spit braais and restaurant options.
Alcoholic drinks will be for your own account, unless otherwise specified. Be sure to ask your ride captain which wine farms to visit.
Join us for a beer at the finish line. Then shower, nap, recover, go for a massage or pester your mates till it is time for dinner. Afternoons are your own. Why not ask reception to recommend something to do, or just hang at the pool?
Share in the tastes of South Africa – braai, potjie, koeksusters, moerkoffie, biltong and such. Dinners will be early enough to afford you plenty of rest before the next day.
Improve your skills
You are not here just to ride and drink wine. You will also learn something. We have professionals on hand to show you some tricks and ensure that you leave as a more efficient rider (unless you are so efficient that you teach our experts a thing or two).
